Matthew 12:34 says, Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Those two powerful scriptures should cause us to ask ourselves some important questions: What are we saying? What are we prophesying over our own lives?

We can’t say things like, “I’m a loser,” or “I knew this wouldn’t work,” or “I always catch a cold this time of year,” and expect good things to happen! The words we say out of our mouths have such creative power. Mark 11:23 says we will have whatever we say.

My great-grandfather understood this principle very well and his faith was a wonderful example to me. He went home to be with Jesus when he was 96 years old. I remember one phrase that he declared over his life every day: “In Jesus’ Name, I’m getting better and better every day in every way, in Jesus’ Name.” He started it in Jesus’ Name and he finished it in Jesus’ Name. And he said it all his life.

Now even though he was in his 90’s when he went to be with the Lord, he never had to have false teeth, he didn’t wear glasses, and he could hear perfectly without a hearing aid. He literally called his own health into being every day. What are you declaring over your health today? Over your children, your marriage, or your finances? God said His word would never pass away or return void (Luke 21:33, Isaiah 55:11). When we declare the Word of God, believe it and act on it, we can have its blessings working in our lives!
